What if God should say, ‘Come Home today!”?
So many things left undone – so many things left to undo –
Recently, I participated in a memorial tribute to a friend who was called to his Heavenly Home. There were, perhaps, 300 people there. Family, friends. So many memories of this person to share.
While I was sharing in the service, I thought, “What if God were to call me today?” What of my life has eternal value vs. the things I did for the moment – things done out of selfishness – What about things left undone that I’ve been going to get to sometime soon?
As I write this note, I have to look back over the close to 78 years I’ve been around here, over 65 of them as one of God’s Kids. I see so many things that cause me to think – ‘If only I could undo – or do differently’, or, ‘If only I had taken advantage of that opportunity while I had a chance’, or - - - Then, I thought – What about things that I can still do as God’s ambassador – His agent here and now?
Please consider this challenge: Of the moments, days, years still ahead of you, how can you invest them in the most valuable way from the perspective of eternity? What do you plan on offering God as your Gift to Him in response of gratitude for all He’s done for you to date? Finally, What if He should call you Home today? What one thing do you NOT want to leave undone? Tell someone, ‘I love you!’? Tell someone, ‘I’m sorry!’? Explain God’s plan of Salvation to someone special? Your past is history. It can’t be reclaimed. Your future is yours to spend or invest for Eternity. God decides when to call time and begin eternity for you and me. We get to decide on how we’ll make it count – just for here and now – or for eternity.
Just a thought - prompted by the recent events in this person’s life.
